In June 2009 the PASDA Board of Trustees were saddened to report that Jeffrey Mace passed away. Jeffrey had been ill for some time, although it may not have been apparent, given his continued level of involvement in PASDA activities in front of and behind the scene. Jeffrey had generously served as our PASDA Officials’ Trustee for as long as many of us have known him.

With Jeffrey’s passing the PASDA and swimming communities have lost someone who has devoted a major portion of his life to our children. Jeffrey will be missed by all who have known him as a friend, mentor, or acquaintance, and most certainly of all, by his family.

The Mace family indicated that donations could be made to the World Wildlife Fund in memory of Jeffrey. Thank you to all who have offered their condolences and support in any manner.

In furtherance of the goals and ideals that Jeffrey held, the PASDA community overwhelmingly agreed that the annual PASDA swimming championship meet be named in honor of Jeffrey. Beginning with the 2010 season, the membership directed that the annual PASDA swimming championship be designated the

Jeffrey S Mace Memorial PASDA Swimming Championships

Among the many concepts and attributes Jeffrey conveyed to the thousands of swimmers, parents and volunteers he influenced across the decades, some are:

  • inclusion of all who wished to participate
  • nurturing the development of young &/or inexperienced swimmers
  • good sportsmanship
  • spirited competition
  • the virtues of volunteerism

Jeffrey expressed these by way of discussion, instruction and most of all, by example. We strive to continue the effort.
